Community Announcements / Earth's Elite LaunchPad - Major Update
« on: October 28, 2018, 12:24:27 am »
As this is a major update to the EE LaunchPad I wanted to put a note out here too.

The LaunchPad has been updated to version 3.0.0, this version brings something I have been wanting to add for a while.  When installing the new LP you will be faced with a new install process, this is to configure out new background process.

The background process will collect a full list of the games you have added (a master list of games is due in the next update) to your LaunchPad, it will periodically check to see if you are playing a game from that list, if you happen to be doing so, it will update the website and begin recording your hours, once you have finished playing it will log your hours played.  This service negates the need to open the LP client or come to the website to launch your games, instead you can launch them direct from Steam, Origin, etc.

In order for this to work you will be asked to enter some information while installing the LaunchPad, one of which will be your LP PIN.  In order to generate this you will need to go the client or website version before installing, there will be a button to generate your PIN just above your total in game hours.

You also have a choice to have this background process run with Windows startup or launch only when you want it open. There is a file under the EE folder in your start menu that will allow you to close this background process should you need to do so (along with an option to launch it).  This background process has been named EELP in the current release.

This version also brings a smarter install/update process, while it wont work during this install, updates from version 3.0 will go a lot smoother and there will be no redundant steps.

Any questions or issues please do post them below.

Community Announcements / Harsh Facts
« on: May 12, 2018, 02:14:19 am »
Good morning folks (as of the time of writing this),

The Earth's Elite Senior Staff are due to convene for a meeting within the next week, Friday 18th @ 3PM Community Time (BST), this is probably going to be one of the most important senior meetings we've ever held.  We're not only discussing the usual day to day operational subjects, but instead, we'll be facing the harsh facts of Earth's Elite.

We are well aware that since day one, EE hasn't every really succeeded.  Sure, some events have had good turn outs, etc etc, but overall our overage event attendance is 1 or 2, yes, I fully respect that EE isn't judged solely on it's events, there's a whole lot more going on, but even if we still look at the community utilisation of the services offered, it's either by guests or 1 or 2 members, for all intents and purposes, EE is dead.

Something I have said from day one, I will never close the community and I will never merge Earth's Elite into another community, this still holds true today.

The difference between this time last year and this year is massive.  For example, Friday 11th May to Sunday 13th May 2018 should have been Venture Radio's Big Weekend.  Third Annual, but, it isn't.  After having been planned for months, time off work booked (at least by myself), we were never able to get it off the ground.  (Just in case you're wondering, Venture Radio is run by EE and SSRF jointly, making VR an organisation under the EE banner).  This truly upsets me (and not just because I have wasted a valuable day of annual leave from work for it), this is something I truly enjoy doing, but, we couldn't.

On Friday 18th the Seniors and I will discuss where we go from here, how do we turn this around.  We are celebrating our 5 year anniversary this year, 5 years ago when I began working on the Earth's Elite project (yup, EE was already in the pipelines in May 2013), where I visioned the community would be 5 years from her launch, definitely was not here, we're actually in a worse place than where we started (silver lining - we achieved something at least).

I don't want this to be a wall of text and I've already done the whole "We need your help" thing and that hasn't worked, so, to be brief.  If you have any ideas, please post them below, if you have the drive to help rebuild a battered and broken community, contact me directly here - https://earthelite.co.uk/mailer.php?emid=11 - You don't need to dedicate money etc to help us out, but we do need people with enough time and dedication to EE.

After the meeting next week the seniors will have an action plan and this action plan will have an "if all else fails" clause.  This is forewarning, if we have not been able to turn the community around (or there are no signs of this happening) Earth's Elite will, in January 2019, reduce staffing to Senior Staff, and begin what we are calling a wind down.  We will run in limited operations for a year (allowing various services EE hosts to expire) and we will reduce ourselves to what can run on the main EE server and nothing else, making December 31st 2019 the official last operating day of EE.  This is our worst case scenario and I do not want to have to enact the wind down clause.

So if you can help, please, I implore you to step forward now, be it a simple idea, to joining the EE staff (note, all staff position may be changing, you're submitting interest not candidacy at this time).

If you got this far, thank you.  Below is the full agenda the Senior Staff will be discussing next week (certain parts have been redacted).

April 2018 / 2018 Donations
« on: April 06, 2018, 04:01:55 am »
As it is April, we are looking to raise enough money to keep Earth's Elite running for another year.

We normally do this by asking for half of £122 in November and then the remainder in April, to try and split it up.  Last year in November we weren't able to raise any money towards our running costs for this year.

Our 100% goal is £122.  As this is such a large number I am pledging 25% of this, £35.50, outright.  I also pledge to match users first time donations (for this donation period) up to £10 until the 100% goal is met or the 24 hour event is over, which ever comes first.

By donating to EE you receive VIP status and if you donate during the 24 hour event, you can give a member of staff an order (see the 24 hour event thread for details on this).

Those who donate will be entered into a raffle to win a prize.  Currently there is only one prize which is £10 worth of games, if you have something that you would like to donate to the prize pool, please post below or PM me directly.

Thank you in advance to anyone who donates or is considering donating.

April 2018 / #EE24H April 2018
« on: April 06, 2018, 02:46:20 am »
It's almost that time of year again, Earth's Elite's 4th annual Spring 24 hour event.

Last year we tried a new event schedule style, while some agreed that it worked, others did not, therefore, this year the April event will be returning to the old scheduling style, players choice is still available in sections of the scheduling and is always our backup for the schedule, however, the schedule will be followed more closely this time around, like past years have been.  This seems to have worked best for us in the past and seems to make for a more enjoyable experience all round.  Otherwise we might end up playing Farming Simulator for 12 hours again and keep revoting to play it.

As usual, the event will start at 7PM Community Time on Friday 6th April and end 7PM Community Time the next day, the event will be streamed live on Twitch.

Milestones and orders, these will of course be making a return this year.  Senior Staff (and general EE Staff if they wish to do so) will create milestones for 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of our donation goal, as we hit each goal we'll 'celebrate' by carrying out our milestone task.  Note, if you cannot perform your milestone on stream, it should be completed within 2 weeks of the events conclusion.
You can also submit orders to the senior and general staff of Earth's Elite with any donation of £5+.

Same promotion points system will be in place for those attending.

Every 1 Hour = 10 Promotion Points
First 6 consecutive Hours = X2 Multiplier
Second 6 Consecutive Hours = X3 Multiplier
Third 6 Consecutive Hours = X4 Multiplier
Fourth 6 Consecutive Hours = X5 Multiplier

If you last the full 24 hours we'll award you a special X12 Multiplier on top of the above multipliers, you could potentially receive 86,400 Promotion Points.  Senior Staff are eligible to receive these promotion points, but will have to give them away during the P&A ceremony in November.

The event schedule can be found here - https://earthelite.co.uk/info_content.php?id=00034

Community Announcements / 2017 Mug Sale
« on: March 11, 2018, 04:37:16 pm »
My apologies for the late announcement of this.  At the time of writing this the first wave or printing has already been completed.

Earth's Elite was supposed to release a 2017 mug last year, around November, but due to budget constraints we were unable to release it last year.  We had decided that we would release two this year as a result, one around now (March/April) and then on in November, which is when it should be released.

We released the 2017 mug about a week ago, unlike last year, the campaign will run until we end it.  We will keep the campaign running on this limited edition mug until one week after the April 24 hour event (13/04/2018).  They will print and ship every 3 days.

Earth's Elite will be making no profit on these mugs, we are selling them at cost price, so to speak, so you pay the least amount as possible.

You can take a look and purchase 2017's mug here - TEESPRING.COM/ee-mug-2017.

Any issues, you can of course contact the senior staff, but if it regarding the shipping or an issue with the mug itself (damaged, etc), you will need to direct your queries to Teespring themselves.

Over the last few days, EE and TLO have been discussing merging our RPG-X divisions, today, we have done just that.

RPG-X from now on will be headed up by TLO, events will be cross promoted.  Our server will be loaned to TLO as part of this partnership.

We will still have an RPG-X division, per se, but it will be ran by TLO.  In time, we hope to have more games setup in this partnership to help support both communities and secure our futures.

The Senior Staff and I are hoping this partnership will see both communities flourish and help provide a better service to you, our members.

This announcement will remain unlocked and myself and the seniors will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, I am including the EE-TLO Partnership Agreement below.

Autumn 2017 / #EE24h November 2017 Quotes!
« on: November 10, 2017, 08:53:12 pm »
Let's get some awesome quotes this year.

58
As the end of the year is fast approaching and the last senior staff meeting of 2017 is in a matter of days, I just wanted to take this opportunity to issue my end of year report to you all.

As CEO of Earth’s Elite, I oversee the general day to day running of the community as a whole, I also control the direction of EE, helped by Scott and Shoot.

Before I get into what I would like to see from EE next year, let’s take a look back at this year.
In January I introduced, by CEO Directive, a new Staff Policy, this policy governs how the EE staff will work, it is extremely harsh on those who do not do their jobs to a level I have dictated.
I did this because I wasn’t happy with the 2016 performance, I wanted better for you all.  Our staff are supposed to ensure you all as members get to come here and have fun, we deal with the back end day to day boring stuff to ensure there is always something fun on offer for you all to do, this policy ensured this was happening along with ensuring the continued growth of the community.

Over the course of 2017 we have hit most of our targets, we are still lacking, massively, on activity and this will be resolved in Q1 of 2018.  The community growth was much better than last year 27 new members at the time of writing this (with a loss of 1), 2016 saw only 6 new members over the course of the entire year.

I feel, activity and growth are closely linked, the more active we are as a community the bigger and better we will become, this is why 2018 we will be focusing closely on activity.

Overall, 2017 has been a rather good year for EE, but I know we can do better, I myself over the last 4 or so months have dropped the ball, having just started a new job IRL, my time has become more limited, I am still working out new schedules etc to work around this and continue to fulfill my CEO responsibilities.  I promise that 2018 will be an even better year for the community.

Before I go on and discuss what I would like to see from EE next year, I would just like to address one merger that occured during this year.  We merged with a Discord server a few months ago, this has now become our primary discord server and the old one is now an archive and locked to our Seniors only.  While I dislike Discord, I must admit that it is a good communication tool, it would be great to see more members using the service over the next few months into 2018.

Now, looking forward to next year, I cannot say that everything I mention here will definatley happen, mainly because I will be giving the senior staff the option to choose, as we haven’t had our final meeting for this year yet, none of this has been mentioned to the senior staff yet, which is why I cannot say if it will or will not happen,  I can simply tell you that I will be fighting for these things to happen.

Firstly, I want to address the activity of EE, this will be one of my primary concerns in Q1 of 2018, I want to see the use of our services sky rocket, we have great tools such as the forums, LaunchPad, COMM’s, and TS,  that’s just naming a few of them.  I want to see members and staff using these things more, the LaunchPad for example is a very easy thing to use, yes I understand that at first it’s not so easy, you have to add each game you want to play, but this is a one time thing, once it’s on there it’s on there for you to play, I will also be pushing out an update in the next few days for the LaunchPad that will be removing the requirement of actually visiting the LaunchPad page on our site or the opening the program, instead you’ll be able to launch a game, say from Steam, and the LaunchPad system will automatically detect it and show to the world that you are playing a game.

Things like the forums are harder to get people to use, this will be something I want the staff to focus on mostly, opening dicussions, keeping things going, getting people invovled, the same goes for TS.

In terms of events, I want to change how our events work, I wanted to get the community moving, so for 2017 I reintroduced the requirement of 4 events a month along with a showcase event, this has failed to yeild the results I hoped for, most if not all the events see a turn out of 1 or 2 people, that number includes the event host themselves.  As a gaming community, those numbers, in my opinion, are appaling.  If I was a guest looking in, potentially looking to join, I wouldn’t, what would be the point, join a community where nothing is happening.

I have been thinking of ways to combat low activity, a while ago I was told there was a lack of incentive, I will be honest, I laughed at this.  As a gaming community, surely all the incentive someone would need to join a gaming event would be to have fun, to play a game with fellow like minded individuals?  Maybe I’m wrong, maybe monetary rewards should be offered for all 192 regular division events a year, but I can safely say that Earth’s Elite and myself personally would not fund them.
So, what do I want to do to combat it?  What I plan to do is abolish the requirement of a showcase event, these clearly do not work anyway, I also want to abolish the need for 4 events a month.  I also want to change up the way events work.  Instead of events divisions will host activities, these I want to be the new regular events, for example, the Hide & Seek sandbox activity, a weekly get together to play prop hunt on GMOD, but an event would be a one off special activity, for example a community 24 hour event or a Minecraft buildathon.

To further combat activity, I do want to add a little monetary incentive (I know,I just mentioned this), from January 1st 2018, I want the EE LaunchPad to track yearly usage during activities and events, the member who has the highest community interation time, will win a small reward.  AKA, attend more events, have more of a chance of winning something.

Along with the above, I also want to introduce some new things for members to do, one big one will be the Los Santos Life server we are developing (I know, still.  I’m pretty much a one man team over here), this will be a 24/7 server that will only survive with high levels of activity, if we work hard in Q1 of 2018, by Q2 maybe Q3, I’m sure the rewards will be worth it.

For community growth, I want to look into better advertising for the community, but this will come in Q2 of 2018, after we have addressed the activity issues.  So more on this will be revealed closer to the time once details have been confirmed.

One more things I wish to change in 2018, is staff accountability, I want the EE staff to be held more accountabe to the members, this includes the Senior Staff.  Now, we don’t want to go the route of TLO where our members can vote staff out, but I do want to give power to our members to call for a public internal investigation, if anyone feels a member of staff, including the CEO, is under performing.  The reason I don’t want to give the power of removal to the members is for this one reason, quite often, some projects that our staff are working on are behind the scenes, something that is not publically visible, take my role of Technical Director as an example, when I’m busy working on a new EE website update, you very rarely see any progress from me, that’s why an internal, public, investigation will yeild better results, if it’s found that yeah, actually, this member of staff hasn’t been performing their duties, then they will be removed, but as a result of the investigation, but if, like me, they’ve been working the background, it’ll publically show that, actually, they are still doing their job, they just don’t have anything to show to the public right now.

I’m sure there are other things here that I want to implement/change in 2018 that I just can’t remember right now, they will be revealed as and when, but, Earth’s Elite should work for you, so if you have any ideas, any at all, then please do contact us.  I mention this all the time and very rarely get any feedback, this is massive hinderance to Earth’s Elite’s future, as Senior Staff we have to do things that will work for you, so that you guys continue to use our services, but if we’re not getting feedback from you about what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong, we wont be able to improve and make things even better for you, so please please please, comment on this topic, let us know what you think we’re doing wrong AND right.

If by the end of Q1 we haven’t been able to improve activity, we may have to think about imposing activity restricitions on EE membership, I don’t want to do this, because it makes people have to be active in events, but I also wont let this community die.  Next year we will be celebrating 4 years of operations, with only 58 members, we are WAY below where we should be at this time, so please, help us help you have a better experience in EE next year.  It will be a team effort and we cannot do this without your help.

As CEO I have dedicated a massive amount of my own time to trying to make this community work, I’m now having to ask, please help me, it is the only way.

Thank you for taking the time to read this report, I hope to see you in events of the next few weeks as we head towards the end of 2017.  We’ve got some great end of year events coming up, the Autumn 24 hour event, Celebration weekend, Christmas events, and the infamous end of year party where I tend to make a massive fool of myself, but if we don’t speak before hand, I hope you and your families have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Autumn 2017 / Earth's Elite Autumn 2017 24 Hour Event
« on: November 02, 2017, 02:30:45 am »
The time is almost upon us!

EE is beginning to enter it's busiest time of year, one of the biggest, most planned, and most anticipated events is drawing nearer and nearer.  The EE Autumn 24 Hour Event.  This year the 24 hour event will be on the 10th of November 2017, we'll be starting at 7PM Community Time (GMT) and will be ending 24 hours later.

As usual, this event will be streamed live over on Twitch.  Twitch.tv/callum603.  You can also watch live, as well as submit quotes etc, over on our 24 hour events dashboard https://earthelite.co.uk/24h.

Closer to the time, the quotes threads, hours, etc will all be added to this board.

As usual, members and stream viewers can give a senior member of staff an order (note, you cannot order them to give you their position, or rank increase, etc) with every £5 you donate to EE.

Senior Staff will also have certain challenges to do as milestones for donation goals.  As the Autumn event occurs after this years donation campaign has ended, we'll be adding any donations to next years goal of £122.  So for the milestones we'll cut that goal in half for this event, the 100% milestone will be for £61.

Milestone 25% - £15.25
Milestone 50% - £30.50
Milestone 75% - £45.75
Milestone 100% - £61

Myself and the Senior Staff will post below their milestones, we have the right to exclude a milestone if we so wish to do so.

Promotion Points will also be awarded for attendance to the 24 hour event.

Every 1 Hour = 10 Promotion Points
6 Consecutive Hours = X2 Multiplier
Second 6 Consecutive Hours = X3 Multiplier
Third 6 Consecutive Hours = X4 Multiplier
Fourth 6 Consecutive Hours = X5 Multiplier
Full 24 Hours = X12 Multiplier

For the full 24 hours, you could get 147600 Promotion Points!

Community Announcements / Member of The Year 2017 - Nominations
« on: September 11, 2017, 04:41:32 pm »
It's very nearly that time of year again.  The Earth's Elite Senior Staff are less than 2 months away from sitting down and confirming who will hold the coveted title of MoY 2017.

Following on from last year, I am opening the nominations to the general membership of Earth's Elite.  The member of the year should be a member who has demonstrated their passion for Earth's Elite over the last 12 months.  A member who has gone out of their way to help others, make this a fun and engaging community, someone who has stood out above all else.

As per the requirements of the MoY award, the presiding CEO of Earth's Elite can neither be nominated nor receive the award, it is urged not to pick a member of the Senior Staff also, however, they are eligible to receive the award.

This year, the MoY will receive bigger and better rewards.  Along with the coveted title and active TS3 tag, the MoY will receive a signed letter from the office of the CEO congratulating them along with a gift card for a retailer of their choice valued at £10 or equivalent currency, they may trade the gift card in for a digital item such as a game for the same or less value.

The MoY will be announced during the November P&A Ceremony on the 21st of November.

All nominations should be submitted directly to me either via PM or email.
